UP Lekhpal is an administrative post where the candidates have to work in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh state holding the roles and responsibilities like reporting details to the Revenue Officer, maintenance of village revenue account and land records, reporting revisions related to mutations and partitions, conduction of surveys, inspecting fields, revising official maps, providing assistance during natural calamities and agricultural distress.

A Lekhpal is a government administrative role present in rural India, accountable to the Kanoongo or Revenue Inspector. The Kanoongo serves as the Tehsildar Revenue clerk and manages all records received from the patwari.

The responsibilities of a UPSSSC Lekhpal encompass:

  1. Maintaining the Village revenue account and records of village land.
  2. Collecting information about villagers, including leaders and influential individuals.
  3. Conducting surveys, field inspections, recording crop data, updating official maps of fields and village lands, and revising reports related to changes in ownership and partitions.
  4. Preparing reports and providing assistance during natural disasters.
  5. Offering aid during agricultural crises and participating in census operations.

In essence, the Lekhpal serves as a village accountant officer in the realm of revenue administration at the village level and acts as the eyes and ears of the Collector in the village.
